Riverside's Excursion Opportunities
Excursions are scheduled based on interest (6 person minimum for most). You can sign up for as many excursions as you wish, and as soon as there are enough people registered, a trip will be scheduled (weather and available drivers permitting). Aside from the Kruger trip, food and beverages are not included in the cost and are at your own expense. Please check the full list of excursions and price with Bob and Lynne, as this may vary over time.
Kruger National Park
This 2 day trip includes 1 night of plush accomodation in the park, with all meals provided. You can't leave South Africa without a visit to the Kruger National Park! Experience wildlife as close as possible, and learn more about nature and animals from a qualified field guide.
Whatever your favorite animal be it giraffe, elephant or even zebra, there is no bigger thrill than seeing them in their natural environment. You could even be fortunate enough to see The Big 5!
Panoramic Route
Blyde Canyon is the world's third largest canyon. With picturesque sites such as "God's Window", "Three Rondavels", and "Potholes", volunteers can experience one of Africa's natural wonders during this day-long excursion into the neighbouring Mpumalanga Province.
Curio shops along the way will give volunteers the opportunity to purchase unique, hand-crafted souvenirs. Also, test your courage by doing a 68m swing into the gorge!
Kapama Endangered Species Project
Here cheetah, wild dog, serval, caracal and various other species are rehabilitated and can be safely viewed from close range. The rare king cheetah can also be seen here.
An educational video is shown as part of the tour and showcases the different projects undertaken by the centre. It’s followed by a guided tour to view cheetah and other fascinating wildlife.
Tree Canopy Tour - 1 day/Inquire
Just a short drive from Tzaneen is located Mogoebaskloof Canopy Tours where you can experience a variety of South African adventures. Activities include quad-biking, abseiling, ziplining, kloofing, gecko tubing and more.
